There are more than 2.000 animals from 300 different species at the Barcelona Zoo, as well as more than 1.300 trees, bushes, plants and flowers from 332 botanical species. Today, the Zoo is a place where all the family can enjoy a day out. Its mission is to disseminate information, research and the protection of animal species in danger of extinction and to educate and make people aware of species at risk.

It is not possible to enter the Zoo with any domestic animal, except for guide-dogs, as pets can make the Zoo animals nervous and stressed
